About This Event

Tánisi, Waaciye, Boozhoo, Wotziye, Hau/Han, Taanshi, Hello

Indigenous Languages of Manitoba (ILMB) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation, advancement, and development of the seven Indigenous languages spoken in Manitoba. We are committed to maintaining the interconnectedness of culture and language through resource development, language programming, training and professional development, events and workshops, and other community-directed initiatives to build sustainable and effective programs within communities in order to produce proficient language speakers. ILMB works with Indigenous organizations with similar mandates to preserve the language and to support a province-wide language strategy. Our mission is to guide and support Indigenous peoples and communities to preserve, protect and advance their mother tongue to ensure that traditional knowledge, history, culture, and values are passed on to our current and future generations.

Indigenous Languages of Manitoba is hosting our 9th Annual Honouring our Languages Gathering and our theme, Bringing our Languages Home, focuses on supporting the strengthening of our Indigenous languages in our homes and communities. Our goal is for all participants to participate in interactive workshops where Elders, Language Keepers, Knowledge Keepers, and Language Instructors share tools and methods for introducing and sustaining Indigenous languages within the home and communities through interactive and engaging sessions, with all sessions partially or fully in the language.

Our two-day gathering will be held on October 3 & 4, 2023 at Lower Fort Garry National Historic Site at 5925 Provincial Trunk Hwy 9, St. Andrews, Manitoba.
